Fair-Play Scoreboards

fair-play.jpgOne of my major projects at my “day job” for 2006 was the complete overhaul of the existing company website.

Being a larger company and the only person on the project I had a lot of hats to wear. The graphics and backend system were all custom built for this site. There are a ton of features available to use but most notably is the installation gallery.

One of the biggest draws for consumers and sign dealers is to see our scoreboards as they function in the real world. Having hundreds of these installations all over the United States and World I created a fairly simple search feature that can find installations from a specific model to all the scoreboards in Iowa.

This project was one of the most challenging I have undertaken and one of the most rewarding.

    Thanks for the props!

I didn’t know you had a site up. I really like the simplicity and clean lines.

Very well done, Josh! Great use of drop-shadows and white space. I noticed that the pages are getting a JavaScript error on load from the moo.fx.js file (this.el has no properties). It’s probably due to a conflict with the “$” symbol between prototype and moo, because the variable is being set in the previous line like this: this.el = $(el);. Not a big deal, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

By the way, Josh, you really should check out jQuery (full disclosure: I’m part of the jQuery Project Team). It’s a super-lightweight, easy-to-learn, flexible JavaScript library with tons and tons of cool plugins that allow you to do all sorts of dynamic stuff.

Enough of my blabbering. What I really wanted to tell you was that I think you did an awesome job on that site. Congrats!

    Thanks Karl!

I had been wondering about that error - but didn’t have time to check it out.

I have been hearing a lot about jQuery and will check into it more. Sounds like some good stuff!
